Biss-Transfer
Transfer of Language Education, Reading, and Writing Support (BiSS-Transfer)
BiSS-Transfer is a joint initiative by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) aimed at enhancing language education, reading, and writing skills in schools and kindergartens (http://www.biss-sprachbildung.de).
The goal in Baden-Württemberg is to strengthen the basic skills of students in reading. The focus is on improving reading skills (reading techniques, reading fluency) as well as reading comprehension abilities (understanding texts, reading strategies). Based on a uniform and systematic reading curriculum, BiSS primary schools implement proven educationally beneficial elements in reading instruction step by step, such as fluency training using paired reading and the application of selected reading strategies. To ensure successful implementation across all grade levels, each BiSS primary school has established its own project group that meets regularly to discuss the next steps in implementation. Each school also has a BiSS contact person who, together with the school management, supports the faculty in implementing the BiSS reading support concept. At our school, the BiSS contact persons are Barbara Dreher and Nikola Bucher-Hamma.
As of the 2023/2024 school year, a total of 2030 primary schools in Baden-Württemberg are participating, organized into 21 BiSS networks. These networks facilitate networking and exchange. You can view the networks here: http://www.biss-sprachbildung.de/biss-vor-ort.
Our primary school is also participating and is part of the Konstanz network.
