Career Orientation

Given the increasingly complex world of training and employment, making the right career choice is crucial for every student. Thus, the career planning program at the Upper Danube Community School is an essential part of our educational practice. It is designed to ensure that students are effectively guided into further education or vocational training.

To fulfill this task, it is necessary to engage with the topic of career choice intensively and from an early stage, starting from grade 5 through grade 10. We gradually create opportunities and ways for students to better assess themselves with ever-new tasks. This helps them develop a sense of which direction their talents and abilities could lead in terms of career choices.

Our components range from discovering, orienting, and introducing, to specifically developing a career choice process and ultimately providing intensive support during the application phase. This is implemented through several elements: getting to know the professions of their parents and their workplaces, exploring the work world of their grandparents, investigating local businesses and their career opportunities. Additionally, various practical units in different fields, internships, attending career fairs, and a week of application training with a concluding job interview all contribute to providing the children with extensive experience.

Furthermore, the guidance and support of students by teachers, career advisors (Employment Agency), and career path guides (BBQ) stand as the second pillar in our concept. All these elements function as a transparent and interlocking system. Conducting competency analysis in grade 7, VERA 8 in grade 8, and developing an individual strengths profile complete the system, tailoring it to guide each student as accurately as possible.
